Small Bites, Big Flavors Coming to Leominster

Bocado Tapas Bar Opening its Third Location at 20 Central Street

Leominster, MA –Michael Covino, President of Niche Hospitality Group, has announced Bocado Tapas Bar will open this fall in Leominster, bringing a taste of Spain to the space previously occupied by Mezcal Cantina.

Mezcal Cantina, owned and operated by Niche Hospitality Group, opened in 2011 serving traditional Mexican plates combined with the flavors of the Southwest, crafted margaritas, and an extensive tequila list. The second of two Mezcal locations, the Central Street cantina shut its doors during the onset of Covid and has remained closed since March of 2020.

Shifting Gears for a Fresh Start

Renovations made to the restaurant during the shutdown allowed the partners at Niche Hospitality to envision the space differently. Ultimately they decided it was an appropriate time to shift gears and bring a fresh dining experience to the city with a concept proven successful at Bocado’s other two existing locations. Bocado first opened in Worcester in 2006, and has enjoyed a long run as one of the premiere restaurants in the city earning many accolades and awards along the way. In 2014 the Wellesley location opened to rave reviews and has remained a favorite among locals.

Tapas represent a style of eating and a way of life that is very Spanish, and yet very adaptable to American culture. Ranging from very simple fare to more sophisticated dishes, tapas are generally served in small portions on small plates and shared by everyone in the party. Bocado features over 40 different tapas, a selection of imported meats and cheeses, signature paella dishes as well as an exclusively Spanish wine list (winner of Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence). The warm atmosphere and skilled service allows guests to immerse themselves in this style of eating for a truly unforgettable dining experience.

The Central Street location’s recent renovations have opened up the floorpan while combining the two previously separated dining and bar areas into one sprawling restaurant with tables, booths, and bar seating, along with intimate outdoor dining available on the back patio.
